Our Scholarship winners
Every year, Joseph's family wants to remember Joseph's legacy through providing a VHHS Soccer Scholarship to two top applicants to honor his life and memory.
Congratulations to the winners of our 2026 Joseph Lee Soccer Scholarship Award: Devan Acharya and Ella Viets. The scholarships were awarded at the VHHS Honors Assembly to these seniors.
“My mindset was that even though I am not the best player on the team, that doesn't stop me from being a leader on the team. I would try to keep that same mindset off the field, especially in school, by staying responsible, working hard, and trying to improve my grades or the connection between friends, family, or teachers. “ - Devan Acharya
“You can learn to be a great player through drills and countless touches on the ball, but learning to push through mental blocks and persevere will be crucial to my success in the next steps of my life. As I enter college, in a completely new environment far from home, I am bound to experience discomfort. However, VHHS Soccer has equipped me with the ability to work through hardship and always come out stronger than before.”
“ All of these experiences have shaped me into someone who strives to live an impactful life, much like Joseph. As I grow and move on to the next chapter of my life, I will continue to carry these values with me.”
- Ella Viets
Congratulations to these amazing students! We wish you the best as you pursue your goals and dreams.
“Knowing that college is expensive, I am so thankful for the opportunity to have received this scholarship. It has been a blessing to me because it has pushed me to keep pursuing my dreams of receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Not only has this motivated me to continue with my education, it has also pushed me into getting more involved in the medical field by getting Certified as a Nursing Assistant and getting an on campus job by working in the nursing lab where I help distribute & organize the equipment, while I also get to learn more from the current nursing students and get more familiar with the medical equipment. I am currently attending Concordia University-Chicago majoring in Nursing, with a minor in Spanish. I am also a part of Latino Student Union, where I have made wonderful friends & plan on being on Student Nurses Association. Even though I don’t play soccer anymore, I still have the love for the sport as I keep watching professional soccer and cheer on my brother in his soccer games. Once Again, Thank you!” - Rubi G
